At the European Parliament the first meeting between Metsola, von der Leyen and Costa

The first official meeting between the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and the newly elected President of the European Council (taking over from Charles Michel) António Costa was held on Monday, 2nd of December.
This week’s meeting was the first official reunion between the three top leaders of the European institutions, a rendez-vous that came on the heels of the start of the new terms both of the European Commission and the Council.
The three leaders in the afternoon took a walk in the park behind the European Parliament in Brussels, passing in front of the House of European History; after a symbolic handshake at the entrance to the Eurochamber, the three presidents proceeded up to Roberta Metsola‘s offices for the meeting.
The real new entry, within this trio, is the Portuguese António Costa, who this week – just after returning from a visit to Ukraine – took Charles Michel’s place at the head of the European Council.
“This marks the beginning of a strong partnership for Europe – posted Ursula von der Leyen on X after the meeting – The challenges ahead won’t be a walk in the park, but together, we can overcome them. Europeans expect results: good jobs, a healthy climate, and a stronger defence. United, we will deliver”.
“New EU leadership, same goal of delivering for Europeans” added the President of the Commission, with the X post that was also shared by Metsola and Costa official profiles.
Following the green light to the new European Commission (confirmed last week in Strasbourg), the first College will meet this Wednesday (4th December), with the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, the 5 executive vice-Presidents and the 20 Commissioners divided by portfolio, country and political priorities.
